Newsletter 2

Introduction

August 2003

Welcome to the second Backing Australia’s Future newsletter. The response to the first newsletter sent on 8 July 2003 has been very positive and we have had many requests for additions to the distribution list.

We have been making good progress on the implementation of the proposed reforms and staff from the Higher Education Group have been consulting widely with the sector. Since the last newsletter we have established a number of consultative groups and information on these is included in this edition. Similar initiatives are underway and more announcements will be made in the next newsletter.

The Department is continuing to negotiate with the Office for Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) over the legislation. The legislation will be ready for introduction to the House of Representatives in the Spring Sittings.

The Backing Australia’s Future website will be updated to include information on the implementation of reforms and copies of the newsletter.
