notes on the data—analysis of Australian university council membership

* Preliminary data based on DETYA's analysis.

Chairs of Academic Boards who are ex-officio or official members are listed as 'academics' in background
Ex-officio/official members such as Chancellors and Deputy Chancellor are listed in 'Background' according to their main careers, where known

Members elected by convocation may be listed according to their main career, where known, or otherwise as 'alumni'.

Members elected by students as listed as 'undergraduate' unless they specifically represent postgraduate students.

Members such as former or current judges or members of the legal or medical profession are listed as 'business/professional'.

Members such as high schools principals, clergy or local mayors are listed as community representatives.
Unknowns are typically Governor-General, or other, appointments whose background is not known and are not found in Who's Who.

Elected members may be elected by academic staff, general staff, UG & PG students or the Convocation
The distinction between Ministerial and Governor mean the difference between a direct Ministerial appointment and a Governor in Council appointment.
